Stay in or take out? This crucial decision is one that we all at some point have had cross our minds. Often it is not aided by the unappealing idea of staying in the kitchen for an hour before we get to fill that gaping hole in our stomach.

But it doesn’t have to be that way!

We have put together some quick Chinese food recipes for you that take no more than 30 mins to put together once you start cooking. You realize that means you can start to cook, and will be eating faster than it takes for you to make that call and lay in expectation of the sweet sound of your doorbell ringing?

But why Chinese food?

Because if you are talking about the ratio between great flavor, the ability to impress your friends, and time in the kitchen, nothing beats Chinese, fact! So stock up on your Chinese wine and soy sauce beforehand and let’s get started!

15 Min Chicken Stir Fry

Starting off with a stir fry is only a natural choice. They are a quick healthy option, that are extremely easy to make. Our recipe is only for the stir fry however you can choose to accompany it with rice or noodles. If you decide to use noodles that are soaked beforehand and you want to mix it all together, add them between steps 5 and 6.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of chicken 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 package frozen stir fry vegetables

For the sauce:

  • 3 tbsp of cornstarch
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup of cold water
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • Red pepper flakes, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan over medium to medium-high heat. Add the oil and heat for 30 seconds.
  2. Add chicken and cook until the chicken is cooked through
  3. Mix all the sauce ingredients together in a bowl
  4. Bring down the heat on the chicken once cooked to medium and pour on the sauce, stirring well.
  5. Cook for approximately 3 mins until the sauce color lightens to a slightly red color. It should have also thickened by this point
  6. Throw in your frozen vegetables at this point and heat until the veg is cooked through.
  7. Nothing more to do but eat! You can serve it with either rice or noodles or alone. Once plated you can garnish with chili flakes should you wish.

Special Egg Fried Rice

A stalwart of Chinese food, what good would we be doing if we didn’t include an egg fried rice recipe. Having one in your arsenal should be the standard for any home cook as it is such an easy Chinese food recipe.

Our recipe includes many vegetables and can be served as a main. To accompany it, having one of the many great starters available from The XCJ in your freezer would only make a good dish great. The pork dumplings are to die for!

Ingredients

  • Egg-2/3
  • Cooked Basmati Rice-200gms
  • 1 Onion – chopped
  • Green beans-5 chopped
  • Carrot-1 chopped
  • Medium Bell Pepper -1 small Chopped
  • Handful of Cabbage
  • Pepper-2 tsp
  • Oil-2-3tsp
  • Chopped Garlic-1tsp
  • Soya Sauce-1tbsp
  • 2 Spring Onions – Chopped
  • Salt -2tsp

Instructions

  1. Heat 1tbs of oil to medium heat for 30 seconds
  2. Add in the eggs and 1tbs of salt and pepper and move them around until they become scrambled.
  3. Take eggs out of the pan and set aside.
  4. Add 2tsp of oil to the pan and bring the pan to medium heat. Once heated add the chopped garlic and saute, later adding the onion.
  5. Once both are soft in texture now add your green beans, chopped bell pepper, and afterward the chopped cabbage.
  6. Turn the temperature to high and it is now time to add your cooked rice.
  7. Mix well together and then introduce your cooked eggs and soy sauce, pepper, and lastly your spring onion. Cook together for a further 2 minutes.
  8. Plate up and enjoy!

Sticky Soy Sauce Chicken Wings

There isn’t much better in the way of comfort food than chicken wings. Maybe it is because of the hands-on eating experience or it could be because you know that there is little chance of disappointment. Chicken wings are nearly always delicious no matter how you cook them!

This recipe however is sure to get you licking your fingers. There is time needed for marinating, but that is a small price to pay for something one of the best Chinese food recipes. Ingredients

  • 7 full chicken wings
  • 1 tbs of Chinese cooking wine
  • 1.5 tbs of dark soy sauce
  • 2.5 tbs of light soy sauce
  • 2 tsp of sugar
  • 2 spring onions cut down to the stem
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbs cooking oil
  • 1 thumb of ginger – sliced
  • 2.5 cups of water

Instructions

  1. Place all your chicken wings into a well-sized bowl. Add all your wet ingredients and the sugar, garlic, and spring onions together. Mix well and cover to marinate for 1 hour
  2. When ready to cook, warm up the pan to medium-high heat and add the oil.
  3. Add sliced ginger to the pan until it gives off its beautiful strong fragrance
  4. Now add your chicken wings and cook them until they are browned on both sides.
  5. Add in the remaining sauce from the bowl you marinated the chicken in and water.
  6. Turn the pan onto a high heat and cover boiling until the water reduces and you have a thick sticky sauce.
  7. Once finished, serve in a bowl, using the tips of the spring onions to garnish.
