If you have been jumping from lease to lease for a number of years, you’ll know that there can be a lot of variety between rental properties. Qualities like the property’s architectural style, the age and appearance of all of its fixtures, and the furniture or appliances that may accompany the property, are all greatly subject to change depending on the suburb you end up renting in amongst a myriad of other factors. In one rental home, you could have a dishwasher and an induction stovetop whilst your next home could have neither.

This can be frustrating for long-term renters who are looking for consistency, but with a proactive approach, you can ensure that you always have what you need to be comfortable. Having a few key appliances at your disposal can help you to settle into your new property with ease.

Let’s take a closer look at the appliances that every long-term renter should own to ensure they feel at home no matter where they are renting.

Air Conditioner

When the temperatures outside start to rise, you will want to be sure that you have an air conditioner that works well. Having your own portable air conditioner can be a surefire way of ensuring that you’re always comfortable indoors come the hotter, summer months. And even if your rental home does have air conditioning, if it ever malfunctions, you will have your portable air conditioner to fall back on.

Having your own portable air conditioner may also potentially allow renters to experience some serious savings during weather extremes. Why? Sometimes the air conditioning units installed in rental properties aren’t super eco-friendly and may cause your utility bills to skyrocket. Renters can stay in control of their emissions by investing in their own portable air conditioner.

Good Quality TV

Some rental properties come with a television and others don’t. If you watch a lot of TV, enjoy sitting down to a good movie or like to play video games, you will want to ensure that you have a decent TV. Buying your own TV is the best way to ensure that you have a screen that will allow you to always enjoy the best viewing experience possible. If there is an existing TV in your rental property when you arrive, you can always move it to the kitchen, bedroom, or the kid’s playroom where it can still be used by others rather than being front and center in your property’s living room space.

An Electric Kettle

It’s not uncommon for rental homes to come without single-use kitchen appliances like the humble electric kettle. Even so, many of us may agree that a household isn’t really complete without a reliable kettle! While there’s nothing wrong with boiling water for tea and coffee on the hob, it’s not very convenient. As we all lead increasingly busier lives, it’s important to take advantage of little conveniences wherever you may be able to. And if you drink tea or coffee regularly, an electric kettle will be an essential investment.

Should you arrive to find an electric kettle already in the kitchen cupboards of your new rental property, then hey! You can absolutely have two kettles for a while! Why not put one in your workspace so you don’t have to leave your desk when you want tea or coffee?

Your Own Hair Dryer

Failing to dry your hair properly in the winter or on those chilly summer evenings can result in you getting sick. Whether you have long flowing locks or you are a little lighter on top, having a hairdryer is absolutely important. This is one personal appliance that you can be sure won’t be included in any rental property, so be sure to pack your own and bring it with you from place to place.

Some Kind of Clock

Having a clock on the wall, a digital alarm clock next to your bed, or an ornate clock on display can be more useful than you might think. Being able to glance at the time quickly can help to keep you organized and on track with your tasks throughout the day.

Whilst some rental properties do come with some form of the decorative wall clock, there is certainly no guarantee that any properties you do find yourself living in will be fitted with a clock. Having your own personalized alarm clock can also bring you a sense of comfort, as you can be sure that you won’t be late for work the morning after you move in because you couldn’t figure out how to work the unfamiliar alarm clock that you found in the back cupboard of your new rental property.
