Ingredients
Sirloin makes the best Philly cheesesteak meat, but if you cant get hold of any, thinly sliced rump makes a great alternative. Here’s everything you’ll need for that straight out of Philly feeling:
- 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil, divided
- 2 green peppers, thinly sliced
- 2 red peppers, thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- Kosher salt
- 1 1/2 lb. sirloin steak, thinly sliced
- Black pepper
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls
How to Make Your Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich
Ready to make the best cheesesteak in Philly? Let’s get started:
1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet or frying man over medium heat. Add your peppers and onions, and fry until the onions turn translucent. This should take between 12-15 minutes.
2. Once cooked, pop the cooked ingredients into a bowl and cover.
3. Time for our favorite part! Let’s get that succulent Philly steak on the go.
Add the remaining oil and warm through. Then tip in your strips of sirloin and fry until you’re happy with the color. We recommend cooking for 5 minutes for a medium-well finish.
Don’t forget to season with salt and pepper as you go.
4. When your steak is ready, return the cooked veggies to the pan and make sure it’s heated through. Drape the provolone across the top of your sandwich filling and continue to cook until it’s completely melted- it wouldn’t be a real cheesesteak sandwich without that oozy gooeyness! This should take around 3 minutes.
5. Lightly butter your hoagie rolls and divide the mixture between them. Voila! Tuck in and enjoy.
6. Looking for a little twist? Sneak a dab of French mustard into your hoagie rolls for a sandwich that packs an extra punch. We love how it complements the smooth, creamy cheese.
