Have a good drink – i.e. Dehydration is not a thing we used to unfold until it appears for us first. You would never assume that such an easy fix as not drinking enough water can throw your whole system out of whack. A hot day, a vigorous workout, or simply being caught up in a busy day and forgetting to drink water has left me dehydrated more times than I care to admit. Now that I can identify the early signs and know how to avert it, it’s made all the difference for me and I want to share it with you.
What Is Dehydration?
Dehydration is there when your body loses more fluid than it takes. The reasons may differ: you sweat a lot, or you’re sick with diarrhea and vomiting. You notice it creeping in through your daily to-dos, and before you know it, you realize that your body doesn’t work as optimally as it would otherwise.

If grading pain were a thing, dehydration headaches are no joke. The pain shoots at you like a flying band placed immediately on the head.
6. Muscle Cramps
They can sneak up on you while working out or even during sleep. It is your body demanding hydration and electrolytes.
7. Racing Pulse or Breathing
In severe cases, dehydration starts to impact your heart and your lungs. This is an emergency and if you are having these symptoms, your body is trying to tell you that you need help now.
What Causes Dehydration?
From what I now know about what can lead to dehydration, it has largely helped me steer clear of the condition itself. Below are the most frequent offenders in my experience that can lead to dehydration:
- Sometimes, we simply forget how much fluid we are expiring or fail to notice.
- Either hot environment, activity or wearable can induce extra sweating.
- Diseases or conditions such as diarrhoea, vomiting or fever can deplete a person of fluid and electrolytes.
- Some medicine that lose lots of water
- Alcohol Consumption can be one of the reasons.
How to Prevent It and Tips on How I Hydrate
Avoiding dehydration is not just about drinking more water; it is about balancing the fluids and electrolytes. Here’s what works for me:
1. Drink Water Regularly
I know this sounds like a gimme, but come on, I was going to forget. I always take my own drinking bottle everywhere with me.
2. Add Electrolytes When Needed
Plain water is best, but you know sometimes your body can use a little extra assistance. That’s where I start looking for something like Electral Powder. Especially after workouts or when feeling rundown.
3. Eat Water-Rich Foods
I keep some fruits like watermelon, oranges, and cucumbers for hydration. They’re also nifty snacks.
4. Set Reminders

My Favorite Tricks For Rehydration
If you’re dehydrated, you must rehydrate properly. This is how I have discovered to do it:
1. Hydrate Slowly
It is not good for your stomach to drink a lot of water too quickly. I take leisurely sips to properly get my water in.
2. Adhere to the intake of Oral Rehydration Solutions(ORS)
I do prefer those solutions such as Ors Orange Flavour when the dehydration is too worse and to take instantly. Having been designed specifically to replace, restore both fluid and salts, but it will make the orange flavour quite gentle.
3. Coconut Water
This natural fluid replenisher, rich in electrolytes, definitely satisfies your thirst after a workout!
4. Steer Clear of Sugary Drinks
It may seem tempting to have sodas and sugary drinks such but it makes the dehydration worse! I now avoid anything and just drink water, ORS or herbal teas.
5. Making Hydration Part Of My Morning Routine
Staying hydrated doesn’t have to be so burdensome, either. I have integrated it into my routine which has now become my habit. For example, I drink water when I wake up, and I always have a bottle on my desk. I spice it a little with some slices of lemon and cucumber and such.
Dehydration sneaks up on you without you ever knowing its coming, unless you prepare and understand your body! Dehydration can be avoided, through practices like continuous drinking of water or resort especially to simple effective solutions for periods of dehydration, Electral Powder and Ors Orange Flavour are few such examples.
