Nickelodeon has created some of the best television shows for children during its time as a network. And, it’s been doing so for a long time, since the channel first launched in 1979!

1. iCarly
Both the original and reboot versions of iCarly have had some interesting things happen behind the scenes. The show is chockful of bonus gags that only older watchers will grasp.
Jennette McCurdy, who played Sam in the original series, has retired from acting and declined the offer to return for the revival. However, the rest of the cast was supportive of her decision.
2. The Fairly Odd Parents
This cartoon was one of the longest-running television shows in the history of the network. That means there are tons of interesting things to discover about it.
For example, Wanda (the fairly-odd godmother) was inspired partially by the character of Wilma on the Flintstones. And Timmy’s parents were originally designed to never have their faces or upper bodies in the frame. This was changed after the pilot episode.

3. Double Dare
Double Dare is one of Nickelodeon’s most iconic game shows, but there was a lot more going on there than you might think at first.
For one, host Marc Summers struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder, so being around all that slime has been somewhat difficult for him. Double Dare was careful about what kids they actually cast.
At one point, Double Dare was so popular that clock company Casio wanted to get in on the action. The company offered Nickelodeon a million dollars to brand the Double Dare clock!
4. The Secret World of Alex Mack
If you were a kid in the early 1990s, you’ve probably heard of The Secret World of Alex Mack. Alex Mack, played by Larisa Oleynik, is a girl who is accidentally drenched in an experimental chemical and develops unusual powers as a result.
But, the character of Alex Mack was actually originally intended to be a boy! That’s not the only unusual thing that happened behind the scenes of Alex Mack. The actor Jessica Alba originally played one of the main antagonists but eventually left the show for other projects. So, when you see Jessica Alba in a different project, you can think of Alex Mack.
